Press Release.
The 2018-19 Centenaires enter into their 5th season focused on keeping the line of steady improvement the team has become known for since entering the WOAA Sr AA hockey league.
Five short years is all it has been since the Centenaires inaugural night. With 40 years of Centenaire tradition, the community has put together one of the most competitive teams since the return in 2014.
In goal is perhaps the best 1 - 2 combination in Sr hockey with Jesse Raymond and Alex Hutcheson between the pipes. Both goalies shared the spot last year, giving the team a ton of confidence in each game. Both players put a lot of work into being prepared and are excited for 2018-19.
The defense has several key returns. Seaforth resident Reuben Smith, who lead the league in defense scoring in 2017-18, is back for his 3rd season. London, Ontario veterans James Toye and Danny Bryan will bring their experience and leadership back, along with sophomore Dalton Good. New to the Cents is Holmesville native Rob Ringuette. Ringuette transferred over from the Lucknow Lancers and hopes his experience helps the young rookies joining the blue line. Those new comers being Seaforth native Morgan Bennewies and Blyth’s Wyatt Carey - both graduates of the Goderich Flyers organization.
The forward arsenal will be tweaked with a couple new faces. Rookies Alex Weaver, Lucas Wilson and Seaforth native Austin Henry join the Cents for their first year of Sr Hockey. Rob Vanwynsberghe joins the Cents in 2018-19. The veteran brings a lot of experience and scoring skill to the front lines of the Cents.
The core is anchored by the heart of the team. Captain Brendon Merritt, Josh Gaynor, Mitch Smith, Conor Carson, Chad Brulotte, Brent Rae and Calvin Penney are all locked in with sights on seeing the Cents climb higher in 2018-19. This group of forwards are very offensively talented and making the team a dangerous team to play.
The season kicks off this Saturday, Oct 6.2018 in Seaforth, game time is 7:30pm. The Tillsonburg Thunder will make their only visit to Seaforth of the regular season. Game tickets as well as season passes are available at the door. Blue Line club opens at 7:00pm, 50/50 all night. Join us!
